Candidates should understand that certain substances commonly found in the workplace are hazardous to health and that employers have a responsibility to protect people from these substances. This course is designed to give candidates an understanding of how they can be affected by hazardous substances and how they can keep themselves and their colleagues safe and healthy.

On successful completion of the CIEH Principles of COSHH award, candidates will be able to:
- Define and explain the types of substances hazardous to health in the workplace
- Understand the health effects of hazardous substances and their causes
- Understand COSHH assessments and control options available
- Appreciate the responsibilities imposed on Employers and Employees by the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations 2002 (as amended)
